Mobile Money, an important Erasmus+ project has been launched with the goal of enhancing the skills and competencies of the elderly in utilizing Mobile Money solutions.

Background
There are approximately 90 million people aged 65 and over living in the EU-27, and the share of elderly people will increase significantly in the coming decades (Eurostat, 2019). Digitalisation is the biggest barrier to the use of ONLINE payments by older people.

Objectives
The aim of our project is to increase the skills of older people to use mobile money solutions. In this regard, the project has the following general objectives (GO):

•Develop a Training Methodology based on the “gamification” and “learning by doing” approaches, in which they will be trained in a simulated, safe and friendly environment, to familiarize themselves with innovative processes related to money management and transactions through mobile technologies
•Develop a Trainer’s Guide and a set of Training Resources for Supporters to improve the implementation of the training methodology.
•Develop a set of Training Materials for Older People to successfully involve them in the training and skills acquisition process.
•Development of a mobile money training platform to improve the implementation of the methodology, simulating the processes and functionalities related to money management and transactions through mobile technologies.
•Implementation of pilot training actions to validate the quality of the training program and its capacity to increase the skills of older people in the use of mobile money solutions for money management and transactions.
•Raising awareness among relevant stakeholders at national and EU level on the factors influencing and barriers to the adoption of mobile technologies for money management and transactions by older people and commitment to the future exploitation of the training program.

TARGET GROUPS

Elderly people
•People with lower or higher digital skills will be addressed by developing an initial training activity to establish basic digital skills.
•People living in rural and/or more isolated areas, as well as those living in urban areas with access to community services, will be addressed by developing the e-training platform to gain access to online training materials and sessions.

Supporters
We also aim to include support people (professionals, relatives, neighbours and others) who provide care, training and support services to older people, as they can play a key role in facilitating older people’s acquisition of the targeted skills.

Society at large
Finally, the project will also target society at large, as they will be important in being able to play different roles in improving the uptake of mobile money solutions by older people.

RESULTS
The training methodology is based on the “gamification” and “learning by doing” approaches, in which older people will be trained in a simulated, safe and friendly environment to familiarize themselves with innovative processes related to money management and transactions through mobile technologies, reducing their concerns and reservations before being able to use them in the real world for their own daily life situations.

The training methodology includes the design of a set of Training Activities, focusing on relevant life situations for older people to be assisted by mobile technologies.
